Located in Harford County, Bel Air, Maryland is 16 miles NE of Towson, Maryland and 21 miles NE of Baltimore. Bel Air has a population of 10,120 people.

Originally known as “Scott’s Old Fields” Bel Air was part of a land grant issued to Daniel Scott in 1731. In March 1782 “Belle Aire” was designated the county seat of Harford County. At the turn of the twentieth century the “e” was dropped, and the second “l” and its companion “e” gave way a few years later. The town’s incorporation was effective in 1874.

Since 1980, the town and its surrounding suburbs have grown substantially. Today, Bel Air is the center for governmental, educational, cultural, medical, and commercial institutions in the county.

Bel Air has earned its slogan as ‘The Heart of Harford’ with its rich history and abundance of modern appeals such as regional medical facilities, entertainment, shopping, and recreation opportunities. It has become a great place to live and visit.

Bel Air is divided into two distinct areas, Bel Air North, and Bel Air South.

Harford County, Maryland has one of the best-ranked school districts in Maryland and the U.S. Harford County is also in the top 10 on Money Magazine’s list of America’s best places to live.
