Towson is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. The population was 57,796 as of 2020. It is the county seat of Baltimore County and the second-most populous unincorporated county seat in the United States.
Towson was officially settled in the 18th century (1752) when two Pennsylvania brothers, named William and Thomas Towson, began farming an area of Sater’s Hill. Ezekiel, William’s son, was the one who opened the Towson Hotel. He did it in order to serve the traffic of farmers that was increasing in the area, The farmers began to bring their products and livestock to the port of Baltimore. From that point on the village became known as “Towsontown” and this is how it first got the name that now is famous for.
